What a great Thursday. Today I spent most of the day learning about the Human Resources Council (HRC). I will be starting my next Policy Community Partnership Office (PCPO) shared resource assignment in July will be at Treasury Board Secretariat (TBS).
On the agenda today, the Office of the Chief Human Resources Officer (OCHRO) spoke about the Impact of Legalization of Cannabis in the Workplace. Claudia Zovatto (Senior Director) and Lyne Landriault (Senior Director) provided OCRHO’s perspective on the health and safety issue through the lens of OHS and from the duty to accommodate persons with disabilities through the lens of labor relations. Ths issue of cannabis was presented from the position of impairment and what that means in the workplace.
Statistics Canada had a fantastic share. They provided insight on how StatCan is building and implementing its HR Analytics capacity. Stacey Money (Director General) and Melanie Cloutier (Director HR Business Intelligence and Transformation) demonstrated how Power BI a Microsoft product could take massive amounts of data and create beautiful comprehensive and visually aesthetic graphics from tables of data. After the break, Louise Mignault (Senior Director) in OCRHO presented Way Forward on Diversity and Inclusion in the Public Service. The purpose of the sessions was to obtain input and feedback from members on the proposed Public Service-wide Action Plan on Diversity and Inclusion.
Finally, after lunch OCRO hosted the Smartshop on HR-to-Pay readiness for the Future. Budget 2018 announced the Treasury Board Secretariat (TBS) would be exploring options on a way forward for a new pay system. While this work is still a few years away, there is much more to be done to stabilize our current HR-to-Pay environment while ensuring we are ready for what comes next. They used Poll Everywhere to seek input to questions from participants in the room and across the country. The data feedback will be posted on the Government Internal GCconnex site of the Human Resources Council shortly.
