WomenInSTEM

This past week was an eye-opener when I attended a Shared Services Canada (SSC) lead WomenInSTEM meeting on Tuesday at lunchtime. I was so taken back by the authentic, and raw stories from women during the first meeting, I immediately knew I had to get involved in helping promote and amplify the community. They will be hosting a monthly informal meet-up at the end of every month on Tuesday’s. Keep an eye on my Twitter for more info!

O365 pre-POC

Office 365 is coming, and we’re working on a pre-POC inside @DigiEnablement from the collaboration perspective. #GCTools business owner of GCcollab was tasked to test the ability to collaborate across the enterprise. I am enjoying the Microsoft Teams functionalities and can’t wait to deep dive into Sharepoint.

Disruptive Tech Ecosystem Mapping

CHATBOTS

I continue to help build the #GC ecosystem map of disruptive tech. Lately, it has taken a secondary priority but remains essential. As the greater #GC looks to leverage this technology and as Canadians expect a more connected Government, it’s critical to bring devs in other departments together to learn from each other. I hope to leverage the greater #GC #DevOpsLeague as I continue to search for people working this space.

Last week we had an excellent discussion with Andre Patry’s team at the Canada Revenue Agency who is expanding their team and building a chatbot. The major takeaway for them is trying to figure out where the #GC is going with the ChatBot technology, which is predicted to be highly adopted by 2025.

Our upcoming ChatBot event in the fall will be an excellent time for developers, policy people and communications people to get together and discuss ideas and best practices.

The search for a CRM and PM Tool

My CRM struggle is no longer. Monday.com is currently solving these issues, well at least most of them. I am looking at SalesForce which I believe has an SSC instance that we can tap in to, but currently evaluating this on a trial basis. More about my CRM story as it unfolds into September.

#LeadersGC Monthly Chats Resume September

LeadersGC is ramping up, and we’re looking at hosting our next chat in September. We have lost a few fantastic collaborators who have moved to prestigious alumni status. Expect a push to gain new collaborators this exciting 2019-2020 season.

Hanging out with the YPN

Meeting people and creating partnerships is one of my favourite parts of my current job. If you really want intel on what the #GC is doing, talk to the students. I always thank the YPN gang for taking the time to tell me what they’re working on at the office. I’m always curious about how they view working in the #GC as a prospective employer. This past weeks event was no different. I had an opportunity to speak to many bright, excited and motivated future public servants working in all lines of businesses.

The main takeaway though was flexible work and not being tied to a desk.

#GCWorkplace #GCFlex Working arrangements

Co-workers sitting a coffee shop working on their laptops comfortably.

Enter #GCWorkplace and #GCFlex. In @DigiEnablement at @TBS_Canada we really practice work anywhere, anytime, anyplace.

GCFlex was the vehicle between work and life, removing the traditional working hours and location. Although we are a relatively small shop, working like this is simply amazing. There are lots to be done in the #GC in the next couple of months with priorities that can change on the fly. #GCFlex gives you the space to work in this area, comfortably.

I promise you, if I ever leave, my next team and team after my future team will be all #GCFlex. I will never end up in a cubicle city siloed up.

New volunteering position with IPAC

Next year is the 77th annual conference of IPAC (Institute of Public Admin. of Canada). I will be on the communications team lead by Caroline Rahal. The best part, I’m being reunited with my previous colleague Brian Double, a Canada Free Agent who worked with me in the Policy Community Partnership Office. I am very excited for this opportunity and can’t wait to update you with all the cool things happening next year.

Fall / Winter Season in #GCDigital up to Fiscal

Finally, I am very excited to see what the fall has in store for me. There is no shortage of work in the #GCDigital world in the #GC. From storytelling to relationship building, making videos, graphics, MC’g, and DJ’g GCWCC events… I’m looking forward to September.
